The finished angel ornament.Made from my Grandmother's old perm rods. I wanted to do "something" with them and so I fashioned these two different ornaments; an angel and a Christmas tree.

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 1

Supplies:

Old perm rods to be used as ornaments.

Steps:

  1. To make the angel, open up the perm rod and bend the wire into a "wing" shape if making an angel. Using thin ribbon, weave through the holes of the rod, starting at the upper part of the rod and weaving to the top. Leave a loop at the top for hanging before weaving down the other side of the rod. Knot and secure. Using the same or a different color of ribbon, start at the bottom of the lower section and weave in an out leaving loops on either side. Secure with a knot. There is not set way to do this, I just "winged" it as I went. Glue a large pearl or other type of bead to the middle section of the rod, just in front of the "wings" for the head.
  2. Adding ribbon to an old perm rod.

  3. To make the Christmas tree, open the rod and just weave the ribbon from the bottom to the top, as you did for the bottom section of the angel. When you get to the middle, weave to hold the layers together so that the tree will lay flat and not open and close. Glue trim and sequins to make it look like a decorated Christmas tree. I had a small plastic gold star which I glued to the top but you could make one out of felt.
