Making 3D Paper Star Christmas Ornaments

3D Paper Star Ornament - star hanging on the treeIt's the first day of the Christmas month and today I'll start with smaller Christmas decorations. The most common ornament is the star. This one is very basic, but a little complicated.

Supplies:

  • 4x4 inch pieces of colored paper
  • scissors
  • glue
3D Paper Star Ornament - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Take one piece of paper and fold it in half.
  2. 3D Paper Star Ornament - fold paper in half
     
  3. Fold across. See photo.
  4. 3D Paper Star Ornament - fold in half again as shown
     
  5. Open the paper and fold diagonally. To do this take one corner to the other side then crease the center. Do the same on the other side.
  6. 3D Paper Star Ornament - open and fold diagonally
     
  7. Open the paper again and then cut half way in on the four sides. Refer to image attached.
  8. 3D Paper Star Ornament - up the paper and cut half way to the center at center fold of larger square

  9. Following these cuts, make the two sides meet towards the center. See photo.
  10. 3D Paper Star Ornament - fold as shown to create points
     
  11. Do the same to all four sides. You will be able to form something like this.
  12. 3D Paper Star Ornament - repeat three more times with this resulting 4 pointed star
     
  13. Now, place one on top of the other. Secure it with glue.
  14. 3D Paper Star Ornament - glue the folds one on the top of the other
     
  15. Do this to the remaining parts. Now, you have a 4 point star.

  17. When you flip, it will look like this.
  18. 3D Paper Star Ornament - flipped over for the 3D effect side
     
  19. Make another to complete a set.
  20. 3D Paper Star Ornament - make a second one to complete the set of 2
     
  21. Then, apply glue on the flat portion and stick the two stars together where tips are in windmill position.
  22. 3D Paper Star Ornament - glue together to create an 8 point star
     
  23. Make more of these (you can make different colors). Attach a string on one tip and hang it in your Christmas tree.
