Turn Unwanted Sweater Into a Pillow

So, dear Aunt Sally gave you an ugly sweater for Christmas this year. You really don't want to hurt her feelings by telling her that it's really not your style. If you are close to Aunt Sally, you know you don't have the heart to donate it to Goodwill/Salvation Army/etc. What's a person to do? Turn it into something useful!

Turn the sweater into a pillow case by cutting off the sleeves and stitching up the armholes. Use the leftover sleeves as funky potholders/hot pads. Instead of resigning the sweater to the "ugly gift area" in the back of the closet, re-purpose what you can with it. If Aunt Sally asks about your new pillow sham covers or your familiar-looking hot pads, simply tell her that you liked the gift, but thought it would look better as a decoration that everyone can enjoy.

Happy Holidays!

Love your idea! You could do the pillow with t-shirts or shirts, too, and make rice pillow warmers etc with the sleeves for gifting to others. :-)

I have a niece who is a notorious practical joker. She had some dreadful sweaters made by her husband's aunt who was deceased. Niece and her hubby got together and cooked up a scheme to give everyone in the family one of these sweaters for Christmas.

They told everyone she had decided to take up knitting and she wanted to share her projects with them. Of course she insisted on pictures of everyone in these stunning creations. They all had a good laugh after she told them the truth.
