Boiled Holiday Custard Drink

Ingredients

  • 1 Qt. milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 beaten eggs or 6 egg yolks

Directions

Warm milk in heavy pan or double boiler. Add sugar, beaten eggs and cook slowly, stirring often until coats spoon. Remove from heat and cool. Add vanilla or nutmeg. Can also "spike" with bourbon. Refrigerate till ready to serve.

This is something that you don't want to cook on very high heat. If you cook it too fast, it'll be very lumpy or almost a curdled texture. This is supposed to be a smooth, creamy, luscious drink. Cook slowly. This can be served at a party or gathering from a punch bowl. Store in refrigerator till ready till use & refrigerate any leftovers in a covered container. We use a rinsed out milk jug.

Can also put a light sprinkle of nutmeg, if not spiked with alcohol. But not together, ti's just "too" much.
(I also put on the submission about how to cook this, but it didn't list my name.
