Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and molasses. Sift flour, add soda and spices and mix. Form in small balls and roll in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes. For soft cookies, under bake a few minutes.

If you somewhat like gingerbread cookies, but the taste is a little to sharp with spices, try combining it with your favorite sugar cookie recipe. I tried this and the flavor is really good.
This is really a good recipe for gingerbread cookies. Nice and soft.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. At low speed, beat flour, molasses, ginger and spice into dough. Roll into 1/4" thickness. Freeze on baking sheets until firm, 30 minutes.
