Kids' Christmas Tree Craft - two finished treesThis is a really cute and fun kids' Christmas tree craft. This is a perfect craft idea for an indoor rainy or snowy day activity. You can also apply this same concept for a Christmas party craft station for toddler kids too.

*If you are planning to do this for a party craft station. Paint and prep all the toilet paper or paper towel rolls brown and Christmas trees green. Maybe have stickers to make it convenient (or prep ornament cuttings from magazines on a plate) for the kids to glue down what they'd like.

All the items used are items you probably already have:
- recycle any catalog or magazine (holiday theme preferred)
- toilet paper or paper towel rolls
- paint
- optional: Any other supplies you want to use like puffy paint, glitter, stickers, decorations, etc.

Total Time: 45 minutes - 1 hour

Steps:

  1. You can use a toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls (whichever you have on hand). I used a paper towel roll and cut it in half. Then trimmed about an inch off.

  3. Using any thin cardboard you have (I recycled this free CVS packaging I got in the mail) draw out your tree(s) and cut out. I used an advertisement to sketch out a tree to trace and cut it out or you can freehand.

  5. Paint the tree(s) and set aside to dry.
  6. Kids' Christmas Tree Craft - paint them green

  7. Cut (2) 1/2 inch slits like so on the bottom of the paper tube and then paint it brown. You can use a piece of cardboard to mark the cut lines.

  9. In the meantime while the paint is drying, browse magazines and catalogs and cut out ornaments or photos that can serve as ornaments.
  10. Kids' Christmas Tree Craft - browse magazines and catalogs for "ornament" photo images

  11. Now is the fun time part for the kids. Have them glue everything down and decorate with anything they'd like!
  12. Kids' Christmas Tree Craft - have kids start gluing on the decorations

  13. Once the tree is decorated, place it in the slit and the tree will stand up! Nice to put on your child's desk, or as decoration on your mantel.
