Making Veggie and Cheese Christmas Trees

These tiny little Christmas trees make for cute little edible crafts. You can get creative with the types of veggies you use to make these, you don't have to stick with cucumbers and carrots. The little star topper is made from string cheese. Using slices of round cheese sticks helps to make equal sized stars!

Total Time: 20 minutes

  • carrot
  • cucumber
  • string cheese
  • sharp knife
  • veggie peeler
  • toothpicks

  1. To make the tree stumps, chop the carrot into equal sized pieces.
  2. To make the stumps the same size, trim around the larger pieces by using the smallest one as a guide.
  3. Repeat and set aside.
  4. To make the tree's greenery, make long thin strips of cucumber using your veggie peeler.
  5. Poke the base of a toothpick into the center of the carrot and press down. Place the end of a cucumber strip onto the toothpick. This is the first layer of tree greenery.
  6. Keep making folds with the cucumber strip. The widest should be at the base, getting more narrow at the top of the tree. Repeat with the others and set aside.
  7. To make the star toppers, chop equal sized pieces from the cheese stick.
  8. Cut little triangles from the perimeter of the cheese pieces until you have a star.
  9. Repeat with the rest of the cheese.
  10. Place a star on top of the tree. Make sure the toothpick does not go all the way through the star.
