Making a Felt Snowman Money Holder

December 7, 2009

felt money holderSewn from white felt, this snowman has a pocket in which he carries some money for the recipient.

Approximate Time: Less than an hour

  1. To make pattern for snowman, draw three overlapping circles on a piece of cardboard the largest 2 1/2 inches (A) the middle one 2 inches (B) the smallest 1 1/2 inches (C). These make the body and head of the snowman (D).

  2. Using the pattern, cut two of (D) from white felt for the body of the snowman. For pocket, cut one of (B).

  3. Place pocket over bottom of (A) and baste. With pocket facing in, sew the two body parts together using a narrow seam allowance. Leave the bottom open for turning. Clip seam allowance. Turn right side out.

  4. For hat, cut triangular piece of colored felt the width of snowman's head, fold over the wide edge to make cuff and sew to snowman using two or three rows of stitching. Add a contrasting pompom to the peak of hat, and a yarn loop for hanging.

  5. Using felt, cut circles for eyes and buttons and glue on. Draw on mouth using felt pen.

  6. Make a scarf to match hat out of yarn or scraps of cloth and tie around neck.
