If not a white base the only other clue there is, is that the light itself is totally clear.

The bulb with the white socket has no shunt. If your artificial tree doesn't have this special bulb, your tree will catch fire. The bulb is a fuse bulb that blows when to many normal bulbs blow out.

How is it that one strand of lights can be out, when it's obvious that current is going through it

You have the old version of a constant on tree. There are special non replaceable bulbs with a white base that are glued into place. When these blow a sections of the tree won't light up.

The bulbs can't be replaced. The best thing to do,would be to buy a newer model.

I have a 4 ft prelit tree and I've been trouble-shooting. The top half lights up fine, even if there are burned out bulbs. The bottom half wont light up. I have replaced several dead bulbs already but if the top lights fine with some dead bulbs I'm not sure if I'm just wasting my time. Any hints? There's no "white" but there are some with an extra piece that have an extra wire which I assumed were important, so I replace all those that were burnt out and still nada. Any hints would sure be helpful before I pull my hair out. :) thanks!

I have the white fuse bulbs on my tree. Last year I was able to (with difficulty) remove the light and bulb from the socket, but the one that needs replacing this year just won't come out! I've tried hot hair dryer, dremel metal cutter, needle nosed plyers - if I do anything else there'll be nothing left of it!

Can I buy a new one of those? rewire around it? Anything? I can get the bulb out but as far as the bulb end from the socket: It WILL NOT COME OUT!
