We don't have an extension ladder, just a standard ladder and we're not really looking to spend $100's on the extension ladder just to hang Christmas lights. Luckily our home has hooks already in place from the previous owners.
We were able to improvise with standard wood piece we had at home (.5 x 1.5 x 5ft) and using staple gun, staple two areas pictured below.
Using a standard ladder or even a step stool, we were able to hang our Christmas lights easily!
