Pinecone Trees

Debra Frick

These trees are quite easy to make and they would look great on a table or any small place you would like to put them. They also seem to be the right size to go with the miniature villages that are so popular these days.

This would be a great kids craft with adult supervision. Plan an outing with the kids to gather the cones. Make it even more fun and take along some hot chocolate and donuts. The best part about this craft project is that it is almost free if you live in an area with pine cones. It is also a recycling project as you are reusing old scratch CDs or DVDs.

Time to complete one tree: about 15 minutes

Materials

  • 1 scratched CD or DVD
  • a bunch of small pine cones, the ones I used were from the blue spruce
  • hot glue or a fast drying glue
  • hot glue gun

Instructions

As you can see from the picture this is a very easy project of gluing the pine cones onto the CD in a pyramid shape. So your bottom row will have more cones than the top layer.

  1. Start by sorting your pine cones into sizes.
  2. Now glue the longest ones onto the CD.
  3. On the next row glue the pine cones in between the ones on the first row.

  5. Continue until you have the height you want and glue a pine cone to the top for the top of the tree.
  6. You can the spray these with clear spray to preserve their natural beauty as I did in the picture or you can spray them with a little snow or glitter.
  7. You could even glue on small charms and beads to decorate like a real tree.
  8. These would also be really pretty with some silk berries stuck in the too. You can get silk berries at Wal-mart where you buy silk flowers.

Happy crafting!

That's a great idea. I have hemlock trees around and they have Really small cones...I'm going to try them with beads as the ornaments.
