Buy a Little Present Every Month for Christmas

When my 3 children were little, money was tight. So I bought a present for each child every month. Granted they were very inexpensive gifts but they still had 12 gifts to open on Christmas morning. I also crocheted each of them a hat, scarf, and mittens so they had something personal from me.

That's a great idea, Molly! I think even every second month would be fine - 6 slightly more expensive gifts, especially for the older kids! I'm going to start looking for items on sale every month!

I do that with stocking stuffers. Dollar tree has alot of items in 3-4 per pack just perfect to split up. Great tip , it does save.

Hi Molly, I liked your post and did a lot the same when our kids were small. Where there is a will, there is a way. Thanks for bringing back memories.

Yep, that's a super idea! I don't do exactly that but I do put things away for them throughout the year as I find them. You might say I start shopping for Christmas on Dec 26th!

I buy marked down items and even some nice things I find at garage sales. They don't know the difference and don't care!

I do this to this day - and just not for small gifts. Today I just bought my son a refurbished iPod from the Apple Store online for $79 shipped (free shipping). That is his big present. I have saved $20 a week starting last month so I was able to buy it. A little over time saves on the "big bomb" syndome later. I have a list and try to buy one little thing once week or bigger things once a month. I keep a list by person so I do not overbuy.

I also do this for Halloween. I just bought a box of 60 full size airhead candies. Next time I go back I will buy another one. (We have a TON of kids in my neighborhood.)Candy taken care of - the bite not as bad because it did not have to happen all at once!

I actually posted on my blog about Christmas and Halloween.

Great idea! I bought my kids their Christmas and birthday gifts for next year when I was on holiday earlier this year. The exchange rate at the holiday place was favorable and I got the same items at 20 per cent cheaper. Also I knew exactly what my kids wants and access the need for the items before I bought them.
