Vintage Looking Thread Spool Tree or Gift Ornaments - ornaments on displayI love old wooden thread spools and decided to make some Christmas tree decorations with them for a homespun Christmas tree this year. It's simple enough for a child to do and fun to personalize! Try them yourself!

Supplies:

  • ribbons
  • any holiday wrapping paper or even copies of family photos!

Steps:

  1. Cut out pictures or decorative paper (even music sheets) and glue onto empty spools. I added rubber bands to hold them in place until thoroughly dried.
  2. Vintage Looking Thread Spool Tree or Gift Ornaments - cut decorative paper to fit around spool, glue and hold in place with a rubber band until dry

  3. Cut 18" long assorted ribbons (or longer if you want longer ornament tails) and fold ribbon in half.

  5. Fold again to fit ribbon into spool hole and thread it through the middle.

  7. You may tie each end of the ribbon on the spool to hold in place if you like. Note that I kept a pen in the looped side to keep it from slipping out when I was tying the other side of the ribbon. I tied some and not others just to experiment.
  8. Vintage Looking Thread Spool Tree or Gift Ornaments - knot ribbon on both sides of the spool

  9. Snip a few slits in the end of the ribbon and curl if desired. I ended up liking them the best.
  10. Vintage Looking Thread Spool Tree or Gift Ornaments - cut slits in the end of the ribbon
