Grow A Holiday Tree Year Round

Grow a "Holiday Tree" and keep it alive. Why take our gift of life from it? Give a live plant, not just a harvested plant. CO2 is their food, let them eat more. They breath out oxygen.

Every day is a holiday to me in me. Be nice, what goes around might come around.

Great thought, and I'd like to tell you about a tree in our street. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and we have street trees, that are planted on the grass verges along foot paths. So, in my street there are several large Australian native trees, and one night some senseless vandal set fire to one. It was deliberate, the person used and accelerate to get it to burn. It terrified an elderly couple whose house fence was near the tree (he has a weak heart). I was sad and furious when I saw that poor scorched tree, but the good news is, it lives, and is spouting whole new bunches of fresh green leaves.

Until it got too big, we had a fir tree in a pot in the house all year round. We decorated it for Christmas and birthdays. We put cards we received up on it too. People seemed to like the idea of a "birthday tree".

Don't do that to a live tree. It's EVERGREEN, REGARDLESS OF YOUR EVERGREEN THUMB, unless your home is filled with tons of natural light, electric heat ONLY, and you love pesticides which attack weakened evergreens! The wrong belief we have is that "others are successful at doing it and it looks so good, helps the air we breathe." In reality, MOST evergreens DIE indoors, regardless, and are

KILLED by well-meaning folks who just don't know better.

For years my friends, family and I did this, only to see the poor evergreen succumb to over watering with chlorinated salts, wrong fertilization, spider mites and worse, choked roots, fungus, cat feces we tried to ignore, and natural gas in the air from the kitchen and heating systems. Now, if it's just a "tree" you want in the house, try a FICUS, but learn all about it before you buy it. It's a temperamental but lovely SLOW GROWING, CANNOT BE FORCED OR EASILY MOVED plant that is used to deep jungle, correct watering, humidity, and not being moved....ever.
They get 50 feet tall, so plan ahead. It doesn't take a R. scientist to figure that it will possibly in one's lifetime, either be killed or outgrow your home. It only survives in tropical temps above 60 degrees.

Indoor trees takes special attention, good homework, and dedication, even if you hear of someone who claims they do nothing special to their lovely HOUSE-TREE. I'd consider finding another and more honest friend, as well as NOT attempting a TREE INSIDE THE HOUSE, even if your mom's tree lived a year until she loved it to death by accident.

Soil, pests, lighting, air quality, pure water, proper fertilization and timing are SPECIAL for Evergreens, or ANY tree who's root system WILL become pot bound quickly, because it was created to live in the huge EARTH, not a pot.

Remembering all those dead trees from well-meaning but ignorant indoor gardeners...in memorial. Take this in the spirit in which it is intended and choose from the MANY plants intended for the indoors instead. God bless and help you to make the best decision. : )
