Happiest Times Are Spent with the Ones You Love

During the holidays we try to get some time to spend with my husband's nephew and family. I buy something that the 2 girls ages 9 and 10 can make while the adults chat. Their mother makes homemade cookies to give us. This year I got sun catcher kits for 5 dollars and a mug with hot cocoa mix. The girls enjoyed painting and drinking the hot cocoa. I got the adults a game that we could play.

This year was The redneck game by Jeff Foxworthy. Plenty of laughs and a evening of fun.

Last year I gave the girls packs of beads and string. They made bracelets and key chains. I try to spend $5-$10 each girl. The happiest times and wonderful memories are spent with the ones you love!

You are SOOOO right!... I couldn't care less about getting gifts, It's these special holiday times that we spend with those we love that really matters.... Tonight I'm going to baby-sit for my almost 5 year old granddaughter. Last time I saw her, we picked up some pinecones... so this evening we'll smear them with glitter glue & attach them to the Christmas wreath we made last year...

---> If you're "financially challenged" like I am, there's lots & lots of little beading kits & other fun things you can buy at the dollar store to do with the kids (or adults & seniors)... Even Bread dough clay... which cost practally nothing: It just takes 3 slices of white bread (with the crust removed) squished up real good with a teaspoon of white glue. You can form this around magnets, or use it to make mobiles or ornaments after it's been "air dried" overnight & the kids paint it.... OR you can add the paint directally TO the Clay when you're mixing it.

I feel sorriest for those who can't afford it, but have to spend on their credit cards to buy for others... If you have the time, use your imagination to make gifts for others... You can log on to DIY.com for directions for thousands of truly USABLE crafts & recipees... I don't know about YOU, but I just LOVE to get a homemade gift or car)... This way, I know it's REALLY from the heart! (in fact, almost 30 years ago, my then husband had bought me a fancy diamond ring... He thought I'd be jumping for joy... but, sadly I never wore it... Because he told me that he'd had his sister pick it out & buy it, it sadly meant nothing to me... He couldn't even make the time to go to the jewelry store WITH her... Now, IF he'd have taken the little bit of time it takes to pick it out for me himself (maybe with a little bit of advice from his sister), now, THAT would have meant the WORLD!)
